Domino’s, Inc. was founded in 1960 and
is recognized as the world leader in pizza delivery.
In 1998, system wide sales exceeded $3.3 billion.
As the eighth largest of all restaurant chains
in the world, Domino’s operates over 6,250
stores in more than 64 countries. In 1998, Domino’s
delivered a record of 338 million pizzas.
In early 1998, Domino’s Pizza changed its
HR focus and introduced a new program that allowed
HR representatives to have a more pro-active role
in recruiting, employee relations, and training.
To better serve its stores and employees, Domino’s
changed many of its HR representatives into HR
generalists who worked more in the field with
their store team members. In some cases, this
meant relocating some HR staff from various office
locations out to the field. The new, decentralized
strategy left limited resources for the HR department
to attend to non-core HR functions such as processing
employment and income verification requests. The
challenge for Domino’s was to find a way
to handle the tedious, time-intensive task of
confirming employment.
Knowing the TALX reputation as the industry leader
in employee self-service solutions, Domino’s
selected The Work Number® for outsourced employment
and income verifications. "After we converted
our human resources operations to PeopleSoft’s
Human Resources software, we had an opportunity
to streamline many of our human resources administrative
processes," said Jennifer Rossi, HRIS Development
and Training Specialist, Domino’s, Inc.
"The Work Number service solved the problem
of how we were going to tackle employment verification
with less administrative-type HR positions,"
she added.
Implementing The Work Number was easy. Using a
simple PeopleSoft SQR, Domino’s was able
to regularly feed payroll data on 75,000 current
and former employees directly into The Work Number
database. The TALX solution enabled Domino’s
to automate the process of employment verifications
without the responsibility of maintaining an in-house
system.
To introduce The Work Number, Domino’s
mailed information to store general managers and
team members describing the new, automated service
as an improved centralized verification process.
Verifiers who had been contacting Domino’s
directly were also educated via the mail. Within
a short time, nearly all of the employment verifications
were being handled by The Work Number service.
"The biggest benefit is that we were able
to refocus our HR people in a way that fit well
into our new HR strategy. Outsourcing employment
verifications to TALX allows us to free up our
internal resources so that we can spend more time
on our core business," commented Rossi. Lenders
and other organizations can obtain accurate employment
and income data directly from The Work Number
database without involving any of Domino’s
staff. "The Work Number is also good for
our team members. It provides them with a faster
verification process," Rossi said. Its ease
of use and instant feedback seven days a week
offers verifiers a competitive advantage by reducing
the time it takes to process a loan. Also, by
only allowing team members to authorize release
of their employment and income information, the
team member’s privacy is completely maintained.
The Work Number in Action:
When lenders and other organizations want to verify
employment of a Domino’s team member, they
simply contact The Work Number to obtain the information
quickly. Verifiers are given an 800 number, accessible
by touch-tone telephone, providing immediate credit
and reference verification information plus the
option of fax retrieval, all at a fixed price.
Non-subscribing verifiers also have access to
controlled, authorized and up-to-date verification
information by using a touch-tone phone and a
900 phone number. The service prompts callers
to enter the employee’s social security
number, Domino’s company code, and a coordinating
Salary Key (only available from the employee)
to receive employment and income verification
information through voice response, fax, or through
a secure Internet connection. With the service
operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, lenders
can easily benefit from the flexibility and efficiency
of this service.
The Work Number offers lenders two levels of
information:
1) Employment Verification allows lenders to confirm
employer and employee name, employment status
and job title;
2) Income Verification provides additional information
including the employee’s salary history.
The Work Number ensures that employee data remains
confidential and secure — only to be accessed
by individuals who have received authorization.
