| Executive Summary |
P.L. 108-390 (H.R. 4306) was signed into law Oct. 30, 2004, authorizing electronic storage and electronic signatures on I-9 forms. In meetings with the Department of Homeland Security, TALX recommended that regulations be designed to allow employers to take advantage of new technologies as they become available, and that employers should not be required to use additional hardware such as a signature pads for electronic signatures. As of the date of this event, DHS has issued interim guidelines which follow these recommendations, but not final regulations. TALX developed I-9 eXpress to meet these guidelines. I-9 eXpress allows employers to generate I-9s online, convert paper I-9s to electronic format, retrieve I-9s online, verify SSNs, produce compliance reports, set up reverification notices for employees needing to renew their I-9s, and quickly comply with audits. User steps for performing I-9 tasks are demonstrated. The question and answer session includes detailed discussion of precise requirements for electronic I-9 forms, requirements and logistics related to entering I-9s and reviewing employee's original documents, and automated expiration of I-9s no longer needed. |
